Capital City Reads

2023 was one of my best reading years to date! I made my way through 90 books, listening to over 500 hours of audio and reading 14,000+ pages. Those stats are mind blowing to me!

I try not to make reading about the numbers but sometimes it is fun to see a breakdown of what you’ve read, how much you’re reading and so on. Last year I relied heavily on tracking my books through Storygraph & I loved it! It tracks so much more than Goodreads (I still use Goodreads but I use that more for reviewing ARCs etc.). For example, you can actually pick which edition of the book you are currently reading or listening to. You can host a buddy read with friends and leave comments on particular parts of a story and it won’t show it to the others that are reading until they have reached that point in the book as well. It. Is. Magic. All that to say, I will continue to use Storygraph in 2024 to track my reading goals and book club reads.

Aside from Storygraph, I found a beautiful spreadsheet template on Etsy by the wonderful shop owner, TheNovelNookAU. Her spreadsheet has allowed me to log every book I currently own, have purchased, & plan to offload. It tracks it all, from physical, audio and ebook and even books I loan out from the library (humble reminder to use your local library!!). Like Storygraph, it gives me a breakdown of every book I read in a month by rating, genre, and format. Clearly I like to visualize what I read.

Like I said, the point of setting these goals isn’t in the numbers alone. It is to help me knock books off my physical tbr, diversify what and who I currently read and to encourage me to continue on a hobby that I truly love and enjoy.
